Hey everyone!
I have a new 2013 FJR with 4,000 kms on it.
Set cruise control about 70-90 kmh and let got of bars and they shimmy.
Had a new warranty tire replaced and still the same.
Also around 140kmh i get heavy bar vibration/resonation.
I dropped a gear and kept rpms around 4500-5000, the same vib/resonation.
After an hour the vib/res gets tiring.
Anyone else encounter this problem?
Thanks
Rob

Problem with Mr. Yamaha's motorcycles {and others as well}. Replaced tire with same brand/type? Post last week mentioned rear tire complicity in front wobble. I did a post last week on carefully retightening the axle and upper and lower tc's in a circular pattern to releive any stress. Some put on fork stabilizers. {shouldn't need them on 48mm forks]. I'm thinking 140kph vibration is from the engine. I get a little of that, not as much as on previous I-4 engines.

My '12 does that on deceleration with hands off bars at around 45ish MPH. Did it on original tire and replacement. I tried the loosening and re-tighten thing to no avail. One of these days I'll have my dealer recheck steering head bearings but until then I'll keep hands on the bars. It's not even perceptible with hands on the bars which is how I usually ride.

My 2003 did it on one trip, but I was loaded very heavy in the bags and top rack, and the bike was wearing a BT014 sport bike front tire. It never happened in any other situation, and I'm a real throttle lock-rest hands off the bars rider.

Roadie, if your steering head is set correctly and your tire doesn't have bad wear, I can't figure what it would be... but I wouldn't like that. :(

If the bars only shimmy when you take your hands off and you can feel nothing when you have both hands on the bars there is no problem

I have no shimmy whatsoever on my 2013. I've tried hands off bars as I slow to a stop until I get so slow I have to go for the clutch to downshift -- maybe 30 mph or so. No problem.

I've had other bikes start shaking at slow speeds with the front preload set to soft. Maybe tire pressure too soft?

I tend to agree with lagain, though. If it only shakes with both hands off the bars, don't do that ;)

Check to torque on the head bearings and ensure the fork settings are equal.
Have no problems with the cruise control set, no hands, steering the bike with my weight if I wanted to.

I would probably be OK with a throttle lock as it only occurs at one speed. If I take hands off at any other speed its fine. I've tried a variety of tire pressures. It is definitely worse when heavily loaded, but still not perceptible with hands on the bars. I'm going to max out front preload as front suspension is a bit soft for my taste, may even go with stiffer springs, I did that with a FJ1200 years ago and it made a world of difference.

2013 fjr head wobble

I also just bought a new feejer and have 3500 miles on it. Coming home from trip to Glacier nat park I set cruise at 45 mph and head shake so bad it almost went into tank slapper! Only happens between 40ish and 45ish, and only with both hands off bars. Came with bridgeston 023 and at 3500 they are junk! I have owned many honda cbr 600 and two bikes ago i fitted my f3 with bridgestone battlax set cruise at 45 same thing. Called honda they said dont take your hands off the bars! Imediatley replaced tires with michelin powers and problem gone. Used nothin but mich. tires since. Just ordered Mich pilot road 3 for feejer and hope this will be the case as well.

I'd still check my torque values on everything up front, if I were you... including the torque on the steering stem UNDER the triple clamp, because I wouldn't put up with one bit of that... no matter what piece of rubber I had on the front of the bike.
